3. The 135% Limits For 2026

To qualify by income, your household income must be at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the 2026 limits are:
- 1 person: $21,546 a year
- 2 people: $29,214 a year
- 3 people: $36,882 a year
- 4 people: $44,550 a year
- Each additional person: add $7,668
These figures are updated every year when new poverty guidelines are published, usually early in the year. If your income is close to the limit, check again after the update, because a small increase in the guidelines can make your household eligible.
