Am I eligible for a free phone?
Lifeline eligibility is based on benefit programs or household income. Answer four quick questions for an instant estimate. Nothing you enter is stored.
Which state do you live in?
Income limits and providers depend on your state.
Does anyone in your household get these benefits?
Select all that apply. Anyone you live with and share money with counts.
How many people live in your household?
Count yourself and everyone you live with who shares income and expenses.
What is your total household income?
Before taxes, for everyone in the household, including wages, Social Security, pensions and child support. An estimate is fine.
This is an estimate, not an official decision. Eligibility is confirmed when you apply (by the Lifeline National Verifier, or the California LifeLine Administrator in California). Lifeline is limited to one benefit per household.
Two ways to qualify for Lifeline
Benefit programs
You qualify if you or someone in your household takes part in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, the Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or, if you live on Tribal lands, a Tribal program such as Tribal TANF or FDPIR.
Household income
You also qualify if your total household income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size. Limits are higher in Alaska and Hawaii, and California LifeLine uses its own, higher limits.
